How to have an office romance
Research has shown that you’ve a higher chance of meeting your significant husband at work than anywhere else (with the exception of online dating that is!). So now work is back in full swing after the Christmas period so if you’ve made it your New Year’s resolution to approach that special someone at work we have some tips for you!
Is he single?
Now it’s likely that since you only know this guy from the office, you may not know the in’s and out’s of this guys situation. So check that he’s single before jumping in.
Be sensible.
We’re just going to come straight out and say it, boss-employee relationships are not a good idea. They can cause ill feeling in the office not to mention awkwardness and damaged careers if it doesn’t last.
Set some ground rules.
When you’re getting it on with someone in the office it’s always a good idea to have some ground rules in place such as are you going to tell co-workers, how are you going to act at work? What if the relationship doesn’t go anywhere? Yes it may seem a bit of a serious chat to have when you’re just having fun but it’s better to agree on these things upfront.
Don’t try to hide.
Of course you don’t always want to tell the whole world but trying to hide a blossoming romance doesn’t always work either. It’s always a good idea to let HR and your boss know so that it saves any career headaches.
Keep it professional.
When you’re in the office, you’re work colleagues. Regardless of what’s going on at home so always keep it professional. That means no big gestures on Valentines day or mushy emails and public displays of affection over the photocopier. You don’t want to cause other colleagues to feel uncomfortable in your presence.
