Sun, sea and sangria are all perfect ingredients for the ultimate holiday fling. Ideally, the perfect holiday fling should be forgotten about the moment that we step foot on the plane, but we know that’s not always the case. No matter how hard you try to resist, sometimes we just can’t avoid being sucked in.
So before you waste month’s of your life waiting for an email that will never come and fantasising about giving up your wonderful life in exchange to live in a villa with your lover – stop. Here are some top tips on having a holiday fling without the broken heart at the end.
1. Be realistic.
Come on, you’ve just met this person, are you REALLY in love? You may have a serious case of lust but is it really love? After all, this person is being the perfect version of themselves. Two weeks isn’t long enough to experience the burping in bed or sleeping with their socks on. So enjoy the moment but don’t make more of it than it is.
2. You don’t have to have sex!
Right, just because you’re on holiday is doesn’t mean that you have to jump in the sack with your holiday fling. Don’t feel pressured in to doing anything you don’t want too.
3. Keeping reminding yourself this is a short term thing.
SORRY. We don’t want to be romance poopers, really, we don’t. But does your life really match up with what’s happening on holiday? As fab as your holiday is, it’s a break away from the norm and usually, with that comes lack of rational thinking!
4. Is he really the man you’d date if you were home?
Get a sense of perspective, is this man really the type of person you’d go for if you were at home? If the answer is a big, fat NO then be prepared to say goodbye at the gate and not to think of them again. There’s no point in losing your head over someone who you’d never go for in your regular life.
Holidays are great for getting away and forgetting all about the pressure of every day life. Add in the flowing wine, the searing sunshine and the sea air and it completely changes how we see things. Our judgement very easily becomes affected and that’s when holiday romance’s usually begin. Just remember, have fun and realise that you’re going home!
