First Date Outfit Tips

Let’s face it, “what am I going to wear” is one of the biggest dilemmas that you’re going to face when it comes to going on a first date. If you think the outfit you wear on a first date doesn’t matter then think again. Dating expert Chiara Atik says it absolutely matters…

“It does matter for sure. One of the things we did for the book is interview men and women across the country, and we asked men: what are the things you first notice about women? One thing they brought up often is clothing; depending on the guy of course, he’s not going to notice labels or trends or anything like that [but] dressing yourself is a little bit like personal branding. It does say a lot about who you are.

If he hasn’t talked to you yet, and is just looking at your photos on a dating profile, or from across the room, he uses clothing to determine if he might like you and if you might get along.”

So here are a few tips on how to choose that perfect first outfit…

Skirt or Trousers?

Look, you know where your assets lie, if you’ve got good legs then show them off. Killer curves that highlight your top half? Then go for some skinny jeans and a nice top. Remember the cardinal rule of never showing off legs and bust and know your assets.

Shoes…

Heels will boost your confidence and make you feel sexy BUT if you don’t feel comfortable totting around on heels then stick to flats. The main thing is that you feel good about yourself. However, if you outfit calls for killer heels then you’re just going to have to get them on and work it!

Jeans?

Feel free to wear jeans on a first date but make sure that those stonewashed, ripped boyfriend jeans stay at the back of the wardrobe. If you do wear jeans stick to fitted and dark denim.

What to avoid?

Stay away from anything baggy and ill-fitting. Also unless your guy works in fashion steer clear of anything that Carrie Bradshaw may wear – because he just won’t get it.
