Dating City Guide: Chester
Historic Chester, where you can wander around medical shopping arcades and even see a herd of Asian Elephants. If there’s one thing that you won’t be in Chester, it’s bored.
So, here are some of the best places to take your date when you’re in the Northern City of Chester.
The Zoo
Who needs dinner and a date when you can head to the zoo and have hours of fun. Not only can you have plenty of fun but you can also learn a thing or two about the animals too. And if there’s any awkward silences, they can be broken by doing your best monkey impression. Chester Zoo has the largest free-flight bat enclosure in Europe so the perfect excuse to cuddle up when your date gets scared – and trust me – it is scary. Chester is the UK’s number one zoo with 12000 animals and 400 different species.
Get tranquil
You maybe in the heart of the City but there’s no stopping you getting your zen on by visiting the garden in the heart of Chester Cathedral and its cloisters (www.chestercathedral.com). Best enjoyed after a tour of the 700-year-old cathedral itself. While you visit the Cathedral, you’ll view the fine woodcarving dating from 1380, including an elephant with horse’s hooves – the carver had clearly never seen Africa; the Virgin and Child painted on a web; and the Chester Imp, a carved image of the Devil in chains.
Go for a walk
Aside from being home to the largest Roman amphitheatre in the UK you can also walk the mile long Roman walls which are over 2,000 years old. You will take in the panoramic views of the city as you explore the most complete set of city walls in the country. On your journey you’ll see the Water tower and the revamped Roman amphitheatre. You will pass through the tower where Charles I once stood and watched the Battle of Rowton Moor, the famous and second most photographed clock in the country – Eastgate. Try your luck on the wishing steps while visiting the Roman gardens and see the castle originally built by Chester’s vert own Norman “Wolf.”
OK go for a drink…
How could we do a dating guide without recommending somewhere that you can get a large glass of wine. To impress your date we recommend you head to the most stylish bar in Chester; The Oddfellows. Choose from champagne, fine wines or beers from across the world. It’s the perfect place to relax, unwind and feel romantic.
ABode Home to Michael Caines
If you’re going to wine and dine your date then head to The Michael Caines Restaurant which is the stunning centrepiece of the ABode Chester dining experience. Located on the 5th floor, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, this is a special place to come to enjoy Michael Caines cuisine of the highest order. The dining room can accommodate 84 diners comfortably indoors, while the outside terrace provides the best open-air dining option in the city.
