How to boost your chance of finding love online

Online dating is now the best way to meet someone new.

You can do it from the comfort of your own home, you can cultivate the relationship before you even think about going out for dinner and drinks and you’re opening yourself up to a wide variety of people.

So, if you’re just about to dive in to the online dating world or you’re not having much success then check out our tips to help you boost your chance of finding love online.

Have a positive attitude. If you go in to online dating with the thought that it’s not going to work then chances are that it won’t. Start seeing online dating as a positive step. One in five marriages now stem from online relationships so it’s a method that works.

Post a great (and accurate) photograph. First impressions are everything and there’s very little point in posting an image that isn’t accurate. After all, if you’re planning on meeting the person on the other end of the screen, at some point they’re going to find out what you really look like. Don’t include other people, kids or pets in your shot, just a nice, honest picture of you will do. Check out our tips for taking a perfect selfie.

Be a bit more creative with your bio. Most profiles sound the same. “I’m fun”, “I like to laugh”, “I enjoy a glass of wine in front of a log fire” – which amounts to BORING. So instead be a bit creative. Something along the lines of “I like a nice glass of red and fancy trying the vineyards of California – are you in?” this tells them you like a glass of vino but also gives them a great conversation starter.

Don’t mention what you’re NOT looking for. OK so you may not want someone whose only after casual sex but don’t risk sending out bad vibrations by mentioning it. Posting what you don’t want is going to make you sound negative and narky.

Make the first move (and be unique). Quit sending the copy and paste emails or starting off each email with Hey You! and instead when you find someone you’d like to get to know be personal. Write them a personal note based on something that you saw in their profile. Also be sure to end your note on a question so you give them a good change of coming back to you.

Finally, be positive and patient. Look you’re not going to find love in a day, so be patient. You’ve got to view a lot of profiles before your prince stands out. Give yourself small goals (ie I want to go on 2 dates before summer) and stick to them.

Now tell us, do you have any tips for online dating success?
