Divorce? 5 ways to get your groove back
OK so no one would ever say that divorce was easy, but here it is, a fact of life. Sometimes relationships just don’t work and whether that’s your fault, his fault or just a simple case of growing apart – it’s a transition period in your life.
But all too often, divorce can mean having to remind yourself and redefine yourself. After all, you’ve been part of a union for a long time, it’s going to be a learning curve right?
So here are just 5 steps to follow to get your groove back after divorce.
1. Wake up
It’s time to get real and realise that your life is not going to halt because you’re going through a breakup. The world will still keep turning and every waking moment that you waste on wallowing in post-divorce blues will be a moment you waste on living your best life. Accept your relationship is over and realise that you (and only you) have the power to make a change.
2. Know what you want
Before you can go after your new life, you’ve got to know what that entails. So start visualising what kind of life you want to be living, weather it’s embracing the cosy life or living it up across the globe, get clear on what you want.
3. Strengthen your inner circle
You’re going to need plenty of support so now is the time to do an audit on who should and shouldn’t be part of your life anymore. Why waste time on toxic friends when you’ve just gotten out of a relationship that’s kept you held back? Strengthen your inner circle and get the support you need.
4. Love yourself
Look, don’t even think about entering in to any new relationships just yet. A big part of getting your groove back is of course learning to love yourself. So start by eating better, moving your body and spending time caring for the thing that truly matters – you.
5. Leave the hurt and anger behind
When it comes to break ups there’s always a lot of hurt and anger, usually more prevalent on one side than the other. But if you’re harbouring any thoughts or feelings of hate, anger, aggression – then it’s time to put that to bed. Give yourself a timeline to get over it and stick to that date because you can’t move forward with tons of baggage weighing you down.
Divorce is never going to be a simple process and there’s a complicated transition that you need to work through. But now is the time to embrace it, because you never know what you’re likely to find and what’s waiting for you just around the corner.
