Dating City Guide: Birmingham
Ahhhh Birmingham. The UK’s second city and a place that will please everyone, all of the time.
Here are some places which you can take your potential beau that are guaranteed to impress…
Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery.
Show off your knowledge of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and enjoy this dose of culture, right in the heart of the City. Situated in Chamberlain Square, the Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery is free to enter and has works from the romantic movement to medieval times as well as modern day photos and video exhibitions. You’ll also find artefacts from the ancient world, from the age of Cleopatra to Nero. And when you’re done with wandering around, you can treat yourself and your significant other to a cup of tea and slice of cake at the Edwardian Tea Rooms.
Go UP for a romantic view.
Marco Pierre White knows a good view when he sees one and that’s why the Champagne Bar at Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse, in the Cube is the perfect place to take your date. Day or night, the views across the city are breathtaking.
A good curry.
A date in Birmingham wouldn’t be complete without a good curry. Being the Curry capital of the UK, there are plenty of authentic, family run restaurants in what’s known as the Balti Triange. Bringing together the Sparkbrook, Balsall Heath and Moseley areas of the city, you’re never more than a few feet from a treat.
How about a spot of retail therapy?
So shopping isn’t always going to be top of the list when it comes to couple things but with the cities famous Bullring, how could you resist? Top off the shopping experience with a trip to Selfridges and their world famous balcony brasserie and Moet Rose champagne bar where you can expect traditional favourites such as fish and chips, as well as quirkier dishes including a Club Sandwich Martini and chicken & waffles. Oh and they do a pretty special afternoon tea too.
Head for a cocktail (make one too).
How about learning how to come up with your signature cocktail by heading to the Vaults Bar in the Jewellery Quarter. Famous for it’s amazing underground location, cool cocktails and gorgeous food, you can indulge in a few drinks and nibbles before taking part in a cocktail class so you can find out how to make the perfect margarita.
Star Gazing.
What’s more romantic than being with your loved one under a starlit sky? Why not tag along on one of the many Astronomical Societies in Birmingham to spend the even star gazing and milky way spotting.
Have a laugh at the Glee Club.
Enjoy an evening of comedy or music at the Glee Club which is located in the Chinese Quater.
Finally, take a trip to the Custard Factory.
Built over 100 years ago by Alfred Bird (the creator of custard!), this is a quirky place where you can experience cafes, shops, galleries, studios and a theatre. It’s bound to get the creative and romantic juices flowing.
