Has hooking up killed dating?
Here at Urban Social we’re a romantic bunch so we’re all about the hearts, flowers and the dates. But it seems that our generation have shunned the romance and are going straight in for the “hook-up”. Hookup culture is growing and can be characterised by spontaneous, commitment-free, alcohol-fueled casual sex.
Casual sex has been on the radar for ages but is it getting to a point where we are favouring casual sex over getting to know someone better? Has it become all about sex instead of the traditional courtship process of talking to someone, giving out your number, making plans, meeting the parents, settling down etc?
The dating system has been in place for so long because it works. Hooking up is ok for the occasional dalliance but doing it on a regular basis makes it even more difficult for us to have healthy relationships and can affect the way in which you approach future relationships.
Whilst casual sex can be fun, dating is fun too. Think about that moment when your heart is set a flutter by the guy sitting across from you or that insatiable need for more information about a person.
So instead of seeing commitment a stressful burden that’s start putting the fun back in to romance and kick hooking up to the curb.
Hearts and flowers are cool – honest.
