8 Rules for a Successful Date

rules for a successful date

If you want to find love then the dating process is a necessary part of finding your ideal partner. Most of us will have found that some dates go well and some we’d rather forget ever happened. The trick to dating is having the skill set to navigate your way through it as best you can. Thankfully, these rules that can make a big difference to how your date pans out aren’t too tricky. Here’s a selection of 8 rules for a successful date to test out on your next one. While these rules unfortunately won’t guarantee you’ll end up happily ever after, it will certainly ensure the impression you give is a good one, which should improve your chances!

Rules for a Successful Date

Show up on time

The last thing you want to do is leave your date waiting. We’ve all been there when we’re running a bit late but for the one standing outside the bar or restaurant it can be a real unnerving experience. If you’re going to be late then a quick courtesy text or phone call is best. Sometimes trying to be fashionably late can backfire, and you’ll find when you do show up, your date has already left.

Dress nicely

OK so we know you’re not going to rock up for your date in your scruffs but it should go without saying that it’s worth making an effort to dress well for your date. Not for the other person of course but for you. If you’ve made that bit of effort you will feel more confident and sexy and that will show.

Listen

One person on the date will always talk more than the other but if you’re the chatterbox make sure that try and take a breath, and take some time out to ask questions about your date, and most importantly listen to the answers. And we mean really listen, don’t just sit there thinking about what you’re going to say next, or what you’re going to order. Think of questions to ask and really show that you’re interested in what your date has to say.

Have fun

We know that nerves can get in the way but don’t spend your entire date feeling anxious. This can end up creating a bit of an awkward atmosphere, that could make it the only date.  Vow to yourself to try and have fun, as though it’s the only date you’re going to have with them. Try not to worry too much about what they are going to think of you, and have confidence in yourself to go out and enjoy spending some time with someone new. They might not be right for you, and remember you don’t need to be perfect, just be real.

Be confident

Confidence is the most sexy quality you have.

Smile

the saying ‘a smile is the most attractive thing you can wear’ really does hold true, particularly when you’re on a date. A smile makes you appear more open, approachable, warm and yes, attractive too. So ditch the moody or pouty look, and go for the ear-to-ear grin when you first meet and frequently during the date. It will also get your own endorphins going, and make you more relaxed and confident.

Don’t get drunk

While booze is a great way to the calm nerves, and gain confidence on a date, too much booze will lead to impaired judgements. Watch what you’re drinking, know your limits and stick to them.  You don’t want to do anything you’ll regret, or not remember in the morning. And you also don’t want to meet up with your date again sober and realise they actually as funny or attractive as you remember!

Have some chat

Meeting new people can be daunting, and awkward silences are always cringeworthy moments you want to keep to a minimum. If you’re not one of those personalities that are never short of things to say, it’s worth taking a little time to prep some things to say and questions to ask. That way you’ll instantly have something to fill any hint of an awkward silence. For some great ideas, read this article on how to keep the first date conversation flowing.

As well as these rules, it’s important to remember that a date will only really be successful in the long run if you are yourself.  Be real and enjoy meeting someone new.
