7 things that will have a positive effect on your love life

Do you have a ritual? You know, a weekly activity that makes you feel positive – maybe a Sunday night bath or perhaps hitting the gym before a hot date? Well, a new survey suggests that by taking a bit of time for yourself and to focus on yourself can be beneficial to your love life too.

“A ritual is different from a habit. A ritual brings you into the here and now,” says anthropologist Timothy de Waal Malefyt, Ph.D., a clinical associate professor at Fordham University. Revlon tapped Malefyt to conduct a study about the positive effects of rituals on women.

And the best thing is, even if you don’t have a ritual, just adding a few things to your routine can make a huge difference  – in your confidence and your love life.

Malefyt recruited 710 women in the U.S. ages 18 to 49. The women were sent supplies (including some makeup, chocolates, and a mirror) and instructions to follow this seven-step ritual once a day for at least four days:

1. Look at yourself in the mirror.

2. Use your favourite fragrance.

3. Apply your eye makeup.

4. Have a piece of chocolate.

5. Put on a new lipstick or gloss.

6. Take a deep breath.

7. Smile at yourself.

After the women followed the above process each day, 89 percent said they felt more confident and attractive, 78 percent said that people around them reflected back their positive mood and energy, and 56 percent noticed people flirting with them more than usual. For those in relationships, 65 percent got more compliments than usual from a partner, and 60 percent said their partner was more affectionate. As for the single women, 69 percent felt their new ritual made them more open to love, and 77 percent felt more outgoing and social.

So practicing a little self love and indulging in some all important you time can make you appear more confident and radiate positivity. Which has a positive effect on your love life – especially if you’re looking for a partner – because who wants to date someone negative.

What do you think? Do you think this is true?
