5 Date Ideas For Summertime

So the great British Summertime has finally decided to show its face – the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the last thing you want to be doing on a date is being sat indoors eating at a restaurant or stuck in the pitch black cinema complete with air conditioning…so what do you do?

  1. Outdoor Film in the park or a drive thru movie: Many cities have film showings in public parks, or if you fancy a more retro date night see if there’s a drive in local to you (even better if you own or can borrow a soft top) www.thelunacinema.com www.route66driveincinemas.co.uk
  1. Picnic in the park: All you need is a sunny day and a picnic basket. If you’re trying to impress we would suggest you aim more for chilled Prosecco and strawberries, with home-made finger food than “two packet sandwiches and a bottle of coke shoved in a Tesco carrier bag”!
  1. Pick your own fruit farm / visit a farmers market:  This one is great for both foodies and those who are more eco minded, as visiting a local farmers market means you can be sure that what you’re eating hasn’t come from a big factory farm. Spend the day picking strawberries, raspberries (whatever takes your fancy) together, have a look at what other ingredients are on offer and then take them all home and cook yourselves dinner.
  1. The Zoo: Who doesn’t love the zoo? You can bond over your love of cute animals, bask in the sunshine together and because there’s so much to see and do you won’t run out of things to talk about. Plan ahead and check their website before you go, see if you can catch any feeding times or displays – or even better still if you want to make the date super memorable why not see if you can book to feed a tiger, or for the more faint hearted a giraffe? Make it memorable.
  1. Go for a bike ride: This one ticks a lot of boxes (sunshine, exercise, endorphins flowing) but it’s not suitable for everyone – first and foremost check your date can ride a bike, and enjoys riding a bike (if not perhaps choose another option?) Then it’s time to plan your route – try and keep it rural if possible, and make sure to schedule plenty of pub stops for resting, eating and getting to know one another – but of course be sensible on the drinking front, a couple is fine but don’t drink and ride!

The sunshine isn’t going to be around forever – this is the UK after all – so make the most of it whilst you can. It’s also worth bearing in mind that getting some sunshine not only gives you a vitamin D boost  – it’s also scientifically shown to increase libido, which is a winning date combination!
